Telmisartan is one of the lesser known and not very popular medications used to treat blood pressure. It is sold under the brand name Micardis. Telmisartan is catagorized under the group of medications known as angiotensin receptor blockers known as ARBS. These medications are usually used if Ace Inhibitors end up being intolerable for an individual. ARBs lower blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels, which leads to an increase in the supply of oxygen to the heart and a decrease in blood pressure.
The usual dose for Telmisartan is 40mg per day and the maximum dose per day is 80mg. This compound can be used a standalone to treat blood pressure or it can be combined with other compounds in categories such as diuretics or calcium channel blockers.
